7 Traditional dance from East Java to be maintained

Discussing about the traditional dance from East Java reminds me of the news in 2007, when East Java residents were surprised by the news of Malaysia's claim about one of the traditional dances. In other words one Indonesian dance is almost stolen! As a result, the people there have the initiative to immediately register some of Indonesian culture to UNESCO.

From the piece of news it makes me a little bit concerned. Yaaa, what else? Some people in Indonesia are not introduced by their traditional culture, which will be familiar with their own culture? Do not let the elders alone preserve our culture. We are also obliged to help preserve the culture of the ancestors.

The number of known Indonesian dances amounts to 170, far less than the number of Indonesians numbering hundreds of millions. But should ya be willing to see the culture that almost disappeared?

Whose traditional dance is impressive? Even the traditional dress is considered very unique and good by foreign countries. Who also learn to dance to interfere with learning activities? Dancing can be one of the sports activities. In addition to its positive effect, it turns out according to research ... nice dancing to hone the creativity of children.
Not bored to observe and preserve Indonesian culture right? Let's move on to the traditional dance from East Java.

7 Traditional Dances From East Java:

1. Reog Ponorogo Dance

Reog Dance comes from Ponorogo, East Java. Usually performed by 6-8 men and 6-8 women. This dance passes through several sessions, so it has a fairly long duration. But if you like art, will not bored deh see it.
Historically, this dance is taken from the journey of King Kelana Sewandana who is looking for her idol, his journey accompanied by soldiers and patihnya namely Bujangganong. Until finally he met with Dewi Sanggalangit a daughter Kediri. However, he will accept his love when the King of Prabu succeeds in creating an art.

This is where the creation of Reog Dance to prove the love of King Kelana to the Princess. He asks for his soldiers reinforcements to fill in the dances he created.
Created 5 components of dancers who fill Reog Ponorogo Dance, namely:
a. King Kelono Sewandono
b. Patih Bujangganong
c. Jathil
d. Warok
e. Pembarong

I was amazed by this dance, because there was a session where a dancer wearing a mask like a lion barongsai almost as big as his body, the mask's weight was about 50 kg. Cool, the dancer holds that big mask with his teeth. Just imagine, how can the dancers can withstand the weight of 50 kg with his teeth?

The mask used is not cheap, the way of manufacture takes a short time. Craftsmen of reog masks do not just learn 5 -12 months. on average they spend 7-10 years to learn to make this mask.

To find out more about this dance takes longer, because each dance session will be replaced with a different dance.Just like a novel . There is a preface, opening, story content, cover and prologue.

Not strange, this dance is in great demand by foreign tourists. We should be proud of having a diverse culture.

The next traditional dance named Gandrung Banyuwangi Dance comes from Banyuwangi, said Gandrung mining call Dewi Sri, where at that time Dewi Sri considered Dewi Padi that can give fertility and prosperity for the community.

Formerly, wayang masked dance was performed only as a ritual performance.
Mask here symbolized as a sense of appreciation on the face of the ancestors. Where at that time the mask has the meaning of respecting the ancestral spirits. No wonder, if this dance is a bit mystical.
A brief history of wayang mask dance is used when Islam enters Javanese territory, and this dance is used as one of the tricks to win the heart of the Javanese who at that time was still a strong Hindu religion.

Apparently different from the West Java Topeng Dance that uses the background of wayang golek history. This East Java mask dance tells the story of Ramayana and Panji.

First I see this traditional dance, which is seen is clothes. Because the clothes are used like clothes for men, and musical instruments are beaten as used in Arab countries.
This dance is usually danced by men. While the dances that I saw danced by women. Apparently this dance tells about the behavior of the invaders at that time.
The name Glipang itself originated from the word Gholiban taken from the Arabic meaning habits.

In short, this dance was made by Seno Truno, as he worked as a cane cutter in a Dutch company. Because of the arbitrary attitude of the Dutchman, he stopped working. He also took the initiative to make a dance depicting the history of his life.
Judging from his movements, he seemed to be in a position of horses as if to attack, a movement that seemed mighty to characterize the Dutch colony who wanted to be highly regarded. His impression marks emotional. As for some movements, where the hands hold the waist, when interpreted in everyday life, the movement is very rude.
But along with the times, the dance was slightly polished to signify the state of society, at that time the majority of soldiers who fought the invaders.
